Utility Africa offers Electrification Solutions to informal settlements. No large investment cost, just a fixed monthly fee based on your needs.
Our solution for informal settlement is specifically aimed at areas that are not electrified and/or settlements that are based on privately owned land or residents wishing to move away from Municipal services.
We have developed a Renewable Electricity solution for low-income communities by erecting Direct Current solar poles that supply 10 to 16 households per pole with DC electricity at an affordable monthly fee.
Why Direct Current?
Solar panels and batteries are already on DC and converting to AC causes significant energy losses by keeping the whole system in DC. We do not need this expensive equipment or the losses.
A lot of your equipment already is DC powered (Cellphone, Laptop) but included in the installation is equipment (Radio, TV, fridge, LED) based on the contract selected.
How Do I Pay?
The payments are made through an app on your smartphone or at one of your local Utility Africa distribution hubs where additional equipment is also sold. The monthly subscription fee ranges from R250 for our Level 1 package powering a few lights, and USB changer to our level 4 package at only R950 powering a fridge, DSTV, TV, cellphone changing point and lights.
